Wow! Has it really been over 7 months since the last blog post? We've been super busy with the animals and our famous I.P.A. Bites (Incredible. Pupper. Appetizers.) have definitely risen in fame with all of the wonderful things that have happened in the past few months.
In February, we were invited to participate in a SPARK Tank competition with the Jackson County Indiana Chamber of Commerce. There were 6 competitors and all had wonderful business start up ideas and building on existing small businesses. Your Mutha Clucka from Purple Shamrock Farm pitched the Bites and guess what? She won 2nd place! The prize money went to purchasing more supplies for the Bites and also a commercial large capacity dehydrator as well as a stainless steel table and commercial mixer.
On the farm animal side, our meat chicks arrived without incident in April and this year we decided to up the amount of fresh chicken that we could sell to people. 75 chicks were in our care from April to May.
Also in April we were invited to participate in another pitch competition with the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce IGNITE Program. Again, the competition was fierce with budding entrepreneurs and folks that were seeking to build their small businesses. In a total surprise, Purple Shamrock Farm won the Innovative Award!
Our bees have been busy with pollen collection and we managed to catch one swarm this year from the eaves of a homeowner's house and even managed to harvest some honey for fresh mead. More information on that later about how it tastes - it will age out at the end of June.
I.P.A. Bites (Incredible. Pupper. Appetizers.) have also been on the move. Now, not only are they available at Darlage Custom Meats, The Seymour Brewing Company and Jackson County Visitor Center in their hometown of Seymour, IN - but they're also available at the Hampton Inn Downtown Indianapolis and soon to be at the Bloomington Farm Stop Collective in Bloomington, Indiana. Be on the watch for where they will appear next!
